Heathrow Airport, considered England’s main airport, has been decided by its authorities to be closed for the entire day today.
This decision was made due to a large fire that occurred at an electrical substation that supplies power to the airport. A significant power outage has also occurred within the airport due to this fire, and a Heathrow Airport spokesperson told the media that this decision was made for the safety of passengers and staff.
Due to the sudden closure of Heathrow Airport, two SriLankan Airlines flights scheduled for today have also been cancelled.
Issuing a statement regarding this, SriLankan Airlines said that flights UL 503 (Colombo to London), scheduled to depart at 12:50 PM today, and UL 504 (London to Colombo), scheduled to depart at 8:40 PM, will not operate.
“Heathrow Airport closed for the entire day-SriLankan flights also cancelled”
SriLankan Airlines says that steps have been taken to provide necessary facilities for the affected passengers and that they are closely monitoring the situation at Heathrow Airport.
The statement further states that flights to London will resume as soon as Heathrow Airport reopens.
The SriLankan Airlines statement further stated:
