A foreign woman traveling on a train running from Nanu Oya to Badulla on the upcountry railway line was reported to have fallen from the train and sustained serious injuries near the Idalgashinna tunnel yesterday morning.
The injured woman is a 35-year-old Chinese national. After being admitted to the Haputale Regional Hospital, she was transferred to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital for further treatment and subsequently transferred to Badulla Teaching Hospital.

It is reported that the woman had been leaning her head out of the train, and subsequently fell from the train after hitting the 19th tunnel at Idalgashinna.
She sustained severe head and leg injuries and was transported by train and then taken to the hospital by the 1990 ambulance service.
Hospital sources say the woman’s condition is critical.
