Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, states that steps will be taken to issue all remaining passports within a month and normalize the process. The Minister expressed these views during the first meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs of the 10th Parliament, chaired by him, held at the Parliament on last day.(22)

The Minister further stated that the necessary arrangements are already being systematically implemented, with the primary objective of restoring public confidence in obtaining passports, which has been eroded, and that 24-hour passport issuance has commenced. He also expressed his gratitude to the employees of the Department of Immigration and Emigration for their dedication, and that plans are in place to establish a passport issuance office in Jaffna after acquiring the necessary printing machines and that passport issuance at regional offices will be doubled.
