The 46th Navam Maha Perahera of the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo commenced its grand street procession on the night of the 11th, under the organization of the Chief Sangha Nayaka of the Colombo Nawakorale of the Malwathu Chapter of the Shyamopali Maha Nikaya, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Nayaka Thero, with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand, Retired General Nipat Thonglek, and Minister Vasantha Samarasinghe ceremoniously placed the sacred relic casket on the elephant. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya offered a floral tribute to the sacred relics.

As a tribute to the late Galaboda Gnanissara Thero, the former Chief Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Temple, scholarships were awarded through the “Nana Isura” Scholarship Fund, which was initiated in his honor.
This year’s Navam Maha Perahera, featuring a combination of traditional local and foreign dance performances, continued its grand street parade on the night of the 12th.
The event was graced by the presence of the Mahanayaka Thero of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siyam Nikaya, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Dhammasiddhi Panyananda Nayaka Thero, along with ambassadors, commissioners, Colombo mayoral candidate Wrai Kelly Balthasar, government officials, and a large gathering of local and international attendees.
