The Ministry of Energy has announced that electricity has been fully restored across all areas of the country.A nationwide power outage occurred yesterday (09th) at around 11:15 AM due to an incident at the Panadura power grid substation.

Issuing a statement regarding the situation, Minister of Energy, Engineer Kumara Jayakody, stated that no proper plan had been implemented in the past to maintain the balance of the national power system. He further emphasized that the lack of planning by previous governments, along with their short-sighted policies, had contributed to the power outage.

“Due to an imbalance caused by an unexpected situation at the Panadura power substation yesterday (09th) morning, a nationwide power outage occurred.

Electricity restored across the island

Preliminary investigations indicate that the actions of previous governments, which failed to properly ensure the stability of the national power system and acted short-sightedly, along with weak guidance from those lacking an understanding of technology, contributed to this situation.

However, a thorough investigation will be conducted into the causes of this incident, and necessary steps will be taken to prevent such situations in the future.We apologize to the public for the inconvenience caused by the power outage and express our gratitude to everyone who worked hard and contributed to restoring the power system to normal.”
