President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is being asked for the final time to vacate the official residence he is currently occupying. He also mentioned that if he has no place to stay, the government can provide him with a suitable house. The President made this statement while addressing a public gathering in Kurunegala on the 01st.This is not an act of revenge but a step towards making the country more civilized, the President stated.
Furthermore, the President added:
“This is a political culture that has been created to lead a playful life. The people have given us power to change this corrupt political culture.”
“Mahinda is being asked for the final time to leave the official residence- President”
The politics of our country has become a burden to the people. The official residences of former Presidents are maintained with public funds. However, at the very least, former President Ranil Wickramasinghe handed over his official residence as soon as he stepped down from office. We express our gratitude to him. When it was announced that official residences should be returned to the government, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also vacated his official residence. We extend our gratitude to him as well. Hema Premadasa also handed over the official residence, and we thank her too.
However, there are still three individuals who refuse to leave their official residences. These are maintained with public funds—shameful! Are these people true leaders? They refuse to change. But we must change this political culture. The people have given us power for that purpose. Let us all engage in politics without wasting public wealth. Let us live simple lives. Leaders must learn to lead a modest life.
