The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has announced the introduction of new software to prevent the use and search of mobile phones without its approval.

Furthermore, the TRC urges the public not to purchase any mobile phones without its approval in the future.

In this regard, TRC Director General Bandula Herath further stated:

“We kindly request the public not to purchase any mobile phones that do not have the approval of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission. Additionally, our institution will soon implement a new automated system to prevent the use of such unauthorized mobile phones.”

He further emphasized that the primary goal of this initiative is to minimize illegal activities in society caused by unauthorized mobile phones and to ensure the safety of mobile phone users in the country.

The TRC also expects this system to help reduce social misconduct carried out through unauthorized mobile phones, strengthen the identification of individuals engaged in fraudulent transactions via mobile devices, and promote a legal mobile phone market.

As a result, an increase in the availability of authorized mobile phones in the market is likely to lead to a reduction in their prices.
