The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was in remand custody after being arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

This order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake following a detailed review of the case

The Magistrate ruled that the prosecution failed to present sufficient and satisfactory evidence to justify the continued remand of the suspect, and therefore, under the provisions of the Bail Act, the suspect is to be released on bail.

Accordingly, the suspect was released on two personal bail bonds of Rs. 5 million each. The Magistrate also ordered the suspect to report to the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on the last Sunday of every month.

Furthermore, the court instructed the suspect to refrain from influencing witnesses in any way and imposed a travel ban on the suspect. The Magistrate directed the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to be informed of the travel restriction.
