“Showers exceeding 150 mm expected today in the Eastern and Uva provinces”
The prevailing rainy conditions in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces are expected to continue.The Meteorology Department announced that the sky in most parts of the island remains cloudy.
Intermittent Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, Uva, Central, and Southern provinces.Very heavy Showers exceeding 150 mm may occur in some areas of the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota District.
Heavy Showers exceeding 100 mm is likely in some places in the Northern Province, as well as in the Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Polonnaruwa, Galle, and Matara Districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at scattered locations in other areas.Wind speeds of around 30-40 km/h may occur at times over the eastern slopes of the Central Hills and in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, North-Western provinces as well as in the Hambantota and Monaragala Districts.
The Meteorology Department urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
