“Rainfall conditions expected to increase from today onwards”
The Department of Meteorology states that a temporary increase in rainfall conditions can be expected in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces starting today (18th).
As a result, intermittent rain or thundershowers may occur in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
The department also notes that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas of the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Polonnaruwa, and Hambantota districts.
In addition, rain or thundershowers may occur in the evening or night in scattered areas of the rest of the island.
The Department of Meteorology warns that wind speeds of around 30-40 km/h may occur at times in the eastern slopes of the Central Highlands and in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Meanwhile, misty conditions may prevail in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts, during the morning.
The public is kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize risks caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.
