On Wednesday night, off the coast of Kovilan Lighthouse, Karainagar in Jaffna, the Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy apprehended an Indian fishing boat that was engaged in poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Ten Indian fishermen were also captured by the navy, this is the first arrest of its kind in 2025
According to the navy, the ten Indian fishermen and the fishing boat were brought to the Kankesanthurai harbour and handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for further proceedings.
