The Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that the highest allocation in history for health will be made in this year’s budget.
The minister made this remark while attending the inauguration of the first and only bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation unit built in a government hospital in the country, which was opened yesterday (02) at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital.

Further expressing his views on the occasion, the minister said:
On request, the Ministry of Health will normally get financing from any government. The Treasury gives the Health Ministry more money each year than even the “Kataragama Deviyo.” The Minister did note, however, that the Ministry of Health will get the biggest amount of funding ever in this year’s budget.According to the Minister, “The Ministry of Health is backed not only by local tycoons but also by foreign and international institutions at times,” highlighting the ongoing support the Ministry receives to further the health sector both domestically and globally. “We want to implement all of these regulations in a methodical and strategic manner,” he said.
