The Excise Department announced yesterday (04) that W.M. Mendis & Co. Limited’s liquor manufacturing licence would be suspended from today, December 5, because they have not paid Rs. 5.7 billion in excise taxes and surcharges.

Following parliamentary enquiries and a period of time in which it failed to collect taxes and surcharges that were due, the Excise Department took action.
