A group of civil society activists lodged a complaint against Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan the newly elected Jaffna District Independent MP, with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday.
The civil society activists submitted the complaint, asking the CID to investigate into certain of the parliamentarian’s controversial comments in a video that was posted on Facebook.

During the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament, an independent MP was seen sitting in the seat reserved for the Leader of the Opposition in the House and refusing to relocate despite multiple requests from the parliamentary staff. The video went viral on social media last Thursday.
Even on social media, there was a lot of discussion about the MP’s behaviour and comments.
Dr. Ramanathan was selected to serve as the representative of Jaffna District Independent Group No. 17 in Parliament.
