Individuals who need a passport urgently can apply directly with all of the supporting documentation.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday (04), Acting Controller General of Immigration D.M.D. Nilusha Balasuriya stated that an independent committee within the Immigration Department has been established to evaluate requests on an individual basis due to the high demand for expedited travel permits.
Those who need passports immediately, explained Balasuriya, still need to schedule an appointment through the usual process.

If they can demonstrate an urgent need, applicants may, in certain cases, present verified documents to the department before the date they have been given.
“We have established an independent committee for urgent matters. In order for applicants to receive help, they must bring paperwork proving their need. But we issue a warning that presenting any fake or falsified documents would result in severe legal action,” Balasuriya noted.
