The Director of the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department, Krishna Srinivasan, according that a team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will soon visit to Sri Lanka to discuss the third review under the country’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program.

He said these remarks in answer to a question during yesterday’s IMF press briefing (01).

An IMF team will soon visit to Sri Lanka for the third EFF review

We had a mission in Sri Lanka right after the new government came office, and there we had productive talks with the president and his team. Under the program, Sri Lanka has clearly achieved significant progress, and these successes need to be safeguarded. He said that steps must be taken to build on achievements to far.

Srinivasan further underlined that the new government is totally dedicated to the program supported by the IMF, particularly in regard to the debt and fiscal targets.

Negotiations are still continuing on, and a Sri Lankan delegation was in Washington to continue discussions about the next review. There has been good improvement. To continue these conversations for the next third review, we are mission return to Sri Lanka,” he said.
