The Railway Station Masters’ Association has threatened to go on strike at midnight today if its demands are not addressed during today’s (30) scheduled meeting with the relevant minister.
Sumedha Somaratne, the association’s president, stated that yesterday’s (29) discussions with the general manager of the railways were unsuccessful.
“Railway Masters Strike – from midnight today.”
Due to concerns about the post of Railway Station Master, the Railway Station Masters’ Association made the decision to start a trade union action immediately.
Somaratne added, nonetheless, that they arrived at this decision because, in spite of repeated requests, they had not received a positive reaction from the authorities regarding the Railway Station Masters’ issues, including promotions.
