In the upcoming General Election campaign, candidates running for the Trincomalee District have been allowed the highest expenditure per voter, Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said journalists in Colombo yesterday (18).

“A Trincomalee District candidate can spend 115 rupees for each voter.” On the other hand, candidates in the Vanni District are only allowed to spend 82 rupees per voter, which is the lowest expenditure per voter, stated Ratnayake.

He added on to explained that a number of parameters, including land area, population density, and size, were taken into consideration when determining these spending limits. He added, “A candidate can allocate 60 percent of the total, the party may spend 39.5 percent, and national list candidates may spend the remaining 0.5 percent.
