In September of this year, Sri Lanka’s tourism industry brought in USD 181 million in foreign exchange earnings.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reports that this revenue is significantly above the USD 152 million in tourism revenues earned in September of last year.
Additionally, according to data from the Central Bank, revenue for the first nine months of this year has surged by 61.2% to USD 2.35 billion from USD 1.46 billion in the same period last year.

There were 122,140 tourist arrivals in September, according to the weekly report from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. This marks a 9.11% increase from the 111,938 arrivals in September of the previous year.
As of now, 1.48 million tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka during the first nine months of 2024; the country expects 2.3 million tourists overall.
With 27,884 arrivals, India topped the world in tourist arrivals in September. China came in second with 9,078 arrivals.
