The political trauma that Sri Lanka went through two years ago, according to Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, was caused by both external and domestic forces.
Speaking at a conference sponsored by the American think tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Indian Minister of External Affairs stated that conflicts in one area can have a significant effect on other areas of the world, particularly the global south.
““Political trauma” in Sri Lanka driven by both external and internal factors – Indian FM”
The global economy is insecure right now. I have visited a number of places in the world where people have witnessed a noticeable decline in their standard of living within the past five years due to extreme hardship. I may mention Sri Lanka. I have been to that country; I have gone there from time to time. He said, “I think the trauma they underwent as a result of some conditions that were under their control, but some of it was not, is what I believe explains political swings there.
In addition, Dr. Jaishankar stated: “Now, what the lessons of tensions and conflicts are going to bring difficulties everywhere in a globalized world—what we saw in the Middle East, what we saw in Ukraine. It is not localised. Everyone will be affected by it in some form or other.
Since they bear the brunt of the changes, the global south is deeply concerned about new sources of stress, tension, anxiety, and increased systemic pressure. We are aware of the suffering. People desire stability and assurance these days. “Nobody wants to feel more anxious,” he said.
