Applications for postal voting in the upcoming parliamentary elections will be accepted from October 1 through October 8, announced Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake.
Ratnayake provided the following explanation during a press conference held in Colombo yesterday,
Applications for postal voting will be accepted from October 1 to October 8. The Parliamentary Elections Act No. 01 of 1981 stipulates that postal vote applications must be accepted within seven to fourteen days following the election announcement.
“General Election: Applications for postal voting will be open from October 1-7”
In light of this, he requested all postal voters to register, have their vote certified by the head of their institution, and turn in their application to the district returning officer for this parliamentary election.
The voter list for 2024 is the basis for this election. Thus, the voter list from the previous presidential election will be utilised,” he added.
