In an effort to expedite the implementation of foreign-aid projects, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake notified officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy on Thursday, April 26. The committee would be formed to approve projects in three months.

The President stated that this procedure would allow for the more effective implementation of projects funded by foreign help, especially those funded by the Asian Development Bank and other foreign loans, which needed to be accelerated.

In addition, the President reaffirmed that the country currently possesses adequate fuel reserves to fulfill demand, underscoring the significance of preserving those reserves to guarantee a continuous fuel supply. To avoid shortages, he pleaded with officials to schedule fuel purchases for the following year.

Additionally, President Dissanayake gave officials instructions to create a strategy for the distribution of 800 Pirivena institutions with solar panels that were acquired as part of Indian aid. In order to guarantee that the program is implemented smoothly, he emphasized that the Ministry must provide a clear roadmap.

The President also highlighted the importance of accelerating initiatives for rural development and putting in place a system that would allocate funds to villages, since those measures would greatly support the rural economy.

Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, the President’s Secretary, Prof. Udayanga Hemapala, the Ministry of Energy’s Secretary, and a number of other officials were present at the meeting.
