The newly elected President of Sri Lanka has received assurances from Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), that the global lender is still committed to supporting Sri Lanka in achieving its reform and development objectives, including those related to the ongoing program that the IMF supports.

The head of the IMF expressed confidence that Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s leadership will contribute to securing security, prosperity, and inclusive growth for Sri Lanka in a letter congratulating him on his election as president.

“The excellent engagement we have had with Sri Lanka over the years is greatly valued by us at the IMF.”

IMF chief pledges unwavering support for Sri Lanka in achieving its reform and development goals.

“This is my chance to reassure you that we are still committed to Sri Lanka and will help it reach its reform and development objectives, including through the ongoing program that is supported by the IMF,” Georgieva said.

In addition, she stated that the IMF is eager to collaborate with the newly elected president of Sri Lanka and his administration in order to continue “the hard-won gains that have helped put Sri Lanka on a path to recovery” since the country entered one of its worst economic crises.

Georgieva said her excitement about strengthening the IMF’s beneficial partnership with Sri Lanka and her best wishes for Dissanayake’s future pursuits.
