Due to conduct that Cricket Australia deemed to be “utterly reprehensible,” former Sri Lankan international Dulip Samaraweera has been given a 20-year ban. During that period, he is not permitted to hold any role within CA, the state associations, BBL, or WBBL teams.

Samaraweera, 52, was subjected to an investigation by the CA Integrity Department after complaints regarding his behaviour. It was discovered that he had seriously violated the CA Code of Conduct while working for Cricket Victoria. As a result, he was banned from the CA for 20 years.

Before being promoted to the Victoria women’s senior coaching position earlier this year, Samaraweera was a long-time assistant coach for the Melbourne Stars WBBL and the Victoria women’s team. He played seven Test matches and five ODIs for Sri Lanka between 1993 and 1995. However, he resigned from the position after just two weeks because the state’s policies prevented him from appointing a member of his staff.

Australia banned Dulip Samaraweera from coaching for twenty years.

That matter was unrelated to the significant violation of the code of conduct. Samaraweera was judged by the CA’s Commission to have acted inappropriately and in violation of section 2.23 of the CA Code of Conduct. It is alleged that a player was involved in the behaviour.

Nick Cummins, CEO of Cricket Victoria, issued a statement denouncing Samaraweera’s behaviour.

Cummins declared, “We firmly support the Code of Conduct Commission’s decision taken today, banning Dulip Samaraweera for 20 years.” “In our opinion, the behaviour was completely abhorrent and a betrayal of all that Cricket Victoria stands for.

“In this instance, the victim has shown amazing bravery and strength of character by speaking up. We will keep providing her with the assistance she needs to succeed both on and off the pitch.

“From an organisational perspective, everyone at Cricket Victoria’s safety and wellness are of the utmost importance. We uphold our culture of speaking up and will not put up with any behaviour that jeopardises that position or our personnel.

Additionally, CA declared that the welfare of individuals who are mistreated is of utmost importance and that they are “committed to providing a safe environment for all players and employees.”
