On the first day of the 4th South Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2024 in India on Wednesday (11) participants from Sri Lanka claimed nine medals in total, consisting of three gold, three silver, and three bronze.

As a result, Dineth Weeraratna (10.49 seconds) brought home silver in the Men’s 100m final, while Merone Wijesinghe of Sri Lanka claimed gold.

In the meanwhile, Tharushi Abeyshika won the gold medal in the women’s 800m final, while Sansala Himashini took home the bronze.Athlete Savindu Avishka of Sri Lanka took home the gold in the men’s 800m final.

Sri Lanka won three gold medals in the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships, among other medals.

With a time of 12.04 seconds, Shanella Anne Wijetungage took up the bronze in the women’s 100-meter final.
A.W. Jayavi Ranhidha won the bronze medal in the men’s shot put competition with a throw of 15.62 meters.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai hosted the opening ceremony of the three-day South Asian Junior Athletics Championships on Wednesday.There are 53 junior athletes representing Sri Lanka in the games.Colombo hosted the most recent South Asian Junior Championship in 2018.
