During a special operation last Saturday (September 07) afternoon off the Delft Island, the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard arrested 14 Indian fishermen and captured three Indian trawlers that were poaching in Sri Lankan seas.

The Indian fishermen and the confiscated trawlers were carried to the Kankesanthurai harbour, where they were to be turned over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector in order to proceed with legal action.
With this most recent arrest, the Navy now has 50 Indian trawlers in its possession and 359 Indian fishermen who were caught poaching in Sri Lankan seas in 2024.
