Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate of the SJB-led alliance, asked the people to vote for him rather than President Ranil Wickremesinghe or Anura Kumara Dissanayake, emphasising that the SJB is the only option since it recognises the problems of the public.
Speaking at a rally in Eheliyagoda, Premadasa asserted that Wickremesinghe and former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had a similar arrangement in 2019, and that the President and Anura Kumara Dissanayake had made a “political deal” to defeat him.
“We have seen President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s skill at deceit and treachery throughout history. He made an agreement with former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in 2019 to dethrone me. Thus, it is evident that Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the head of the NPP, and President Ranil Wickremesinghe have reached a political agreement. To beat me, they have banded together and created an unclean alliance.
“Sajith alleges that Anura and Ranil had a deal to defeat SJB.”
Premadasa continued, saying, “They could have spoken about electing one as president and the other as prime minister. Their political partnership is that. They are still only doing acting. Anura Kumara Dissanayake was able to speak with state media before to the postal vote because of those deals.
“I kindly ask people who intend to cast ballots for President Ranil Wickremesinghe not to squander them on him. To bring about such change, please vote for Samagi Jana Sandhanaya and Samagi Jana Balawegaya. We shall assume the United National Party’s obligations.
He went on, “Samagi Jana Balawegaya, who recognises the burdens of the people, is the only solution for the country.”
