Local doctors said on Saturday that at least 61 Palestinians had died in 48 hours as a result of Israeli military attacks throughout the Gaza Strip, where Israeli soldiers were battling terrorists commanded by Hamas.
Negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement that would free Israeli and international captives held in Gaza and free many Palestinian prisoners in Israel have so far failed eleven months into the war.At least eight people were killed and fifteen others were injured after an Israeli airstrike targeted the Halima al-Sa’diyya school compound, which was used as a shelter for displaced persons in the Jabalia urban refugee camp.
Within the facility, a Hamas command centre was the target of the strike, according to the Israeli military. It charged the Islamist terrorist organisation of frequently using civilian infrastructure and people for military gains, an accusation that Hamas refutes.
“In 48 hours, Israeli bombings in Gaza claim 61 lives while the UN works to vaccinate”
Following an attack on a residence in Gaza City, five more persons lost their lives.
Palestinian doctors said that an Israeli hit at the Amr Ibn Ala’as school, which also shelters displaced families in the Sheikh Radwan area of Gaza City, later on Saturday left four persons dead and twenty-five wounded.
According to the Israeli military, the airstrike was directed towards a Hamas command centre, which was located in the property where a school had formerly stood.According to Palestinian health sources, 28 individuals have died as a result of Israeli military attacks in the Gaza Strip on Saturday.
The armed branches of Islamic Jihad, Fatah, and Hamas claimed to have used mortar bombs and anti-tank rockets against Israeli forces in Gaza City, central regions, and the south. In certain cases, they had even detonated devices to target army vehicles, including tanks.
The conflicting parties persisted in blaming one another for the mediators’ inability to achieve a truce, notably Qatar, Egypt, and the US. The United States is getting ready to make a fresh proposal, but as long as there are gaps between the parties, it doesn’t seem like there will be much of a breakthrough.
The lead American negotiator, CIA Director William Burns, announced at a London gathering that a more comprehensive plan will be presented in the next several days.
INTERRUPTIONS IN THE FIGHTING POLIO VACCINATIONS GO ON
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Thursday that in order to reach a settlement, both Israel and Hamas—which controlled Gaza prior to the conflict and was in charge of the massacre against Jews in Israel on October 7 that started it—had to make compromises.Senior Hamas spokesman Hossam Badran said on Saturday that the organisation had not made any new demands and was still committed to the US plan from July 2. He also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of adding conditions that would prolong the conflict. According to Netanyahu, Hamas was the one who imposed the intolerable circumstances.
In spite of the impasse, the UN has continued to work with local health officials to vaccinate 640,000 children in Gaza following the first incidence of polio in the region in around 25 years. The effort has been able to continue because of brief breaks in the combat.
After reaching more over half of the kids in need of the drops in the first two phases in the southern and central Gaza Strip, U.N. officials reported that they were making progress. The operation will shift to the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday. Four weeks following the initial vaccine round, a second round will be necessary.
The most recent wave of violence in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict began on October 7, when Hamas launched an offensive on Israel, murdering 1,200 people and kidnapping around 250 more, according to Israeli estimates.According to the local health ministry, Israel’s following attack on the enclave resulted in the deaths of approximately 40,900 Palestinians. It also forced virtually the entire 2.3 million-person population to flee, creating a starvation crisis and sparking accusations of genocide before the World Court, which Israel disputes.
