Sajith Premadasa, the SJB presidential candidate, recently made a commitment in Mannar to use diplomatic channels to end the long-standing problem of Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters in the event that his party wins the September 21 election.

Premadasa pledged a quick, long-term, and diplomatic solution to safeguard the interests of Sri Lanka’s fishing community, acknowledging the serious effects poaching is having on the livelihoods of local fishermen.Premadasa spoke about the needs of the agriculture sector during a public rally in Mannar. He declared that in order to lessen the difficulties encountered by farmers, a new initiative will be implemented. In January, paddy farmers will receive a set price guarantee for their harvest, and fertiliser will be provided at a discounted rate of 5,000 rupees every 50 kg bag.

Sajith vows to find a quick fix for the problem of Indians poaching in Sri Lankan seas.

Premadasa announced intentions to explicitly help farmers’ requirements for agricultural supplies by offering a fuel subsidy that would be available to them via a QR code system. He said, “All agricultural loans taken out by farmers will be written off” under his administration.

“Under our administration, cultivation loans will undoubtedly be waived,” he confirmed.

Premadasa also presented plans for the country’s overall development, with a focus on the war-torn eastern and northern areas. He pledged to strengthen transit connections with India and other regions and suggested holding an international conference to garner support for these sectors. He wants to create industrial enterprises in the area and promote tourism by improving Mannar’s connections.
