The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi told The serenbona media network that the public discussion between the presidential contenders running in the 2024 election is set to take place today(07)
Presented by the “March 12 Movement,” the event will be webcast on more than 200 social media sites and shown live on all major television networks from 3 to 5 p.m. This will provide the presidential contenders a chance to introduce their proposals to the general public.
“Anura and Ranil have not yet confirmed their participation in a public debate.”
Four presidential candidates have confirmed their participation in the debate, according to Hettiarachchi. They are Sajith Premadasa of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Namal Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Dilith Jayaweera of “Sarvajana Balaya,” and P. Ariyanethiran of Tamil common.
Other presidential contenders, including as President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the National People’s Power (NPP), have also been invited, he said, although they have not yet confirmed their presence.
“We’re still hoping they’ll participate. Nevertheless, we have received written notification from Ranil Wickremesinghe’s party that he would find it challenging to attend. Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s ability to attend is still anticipated, he said.The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo is scheduled to host the discussion.
