Rahul Dravid, who led India to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2024, will take over as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
After India’s victory in Barbados in June, Dravid has taken a brief hiatus from the game. However, he will soon begin working with the team on key issues like player retention in advance of the auction later this year.
According to a source close to the situation, PTI, the negotiations are nearing their conclusion and he will take over as head coach shortly.Having been the Royals’ director of cricket since 2021, Kumar Sangakkara will stay in that position and probably play a more active role with the SA20-playing Paarl Royals and the CPL-playing Barbados Royals.

With the Royals, Dravid has a lengthy history. He captained the team in 2012 and 2013 for two seasons before taking on the role of mentor for an additional two years.
In 2016, Dravid moved to play a similar role for the Delhi Capitals, where he stayed until he was appointed head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
He left NCA in 2021 to succeed Ravi Shastri as head coach of India.
Sanju Samson, who is expected to be retained as the RR captain for an additional season, will now be reunited with Dravid at the Royals. Samson flourished under the 52-year-old initially.ESPNCricinfo, meanwhile, revealed that the team may bring in Vikram Rathour, who guided India’s batsmen under Dravid, to serve as an assistant coach.
