Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition and presidential candidate for Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), says that his government will take action to transform the freshwater and deepwater fishing sectors into “smart industries.”
He outlined his plan to launch a public-private joint venture in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which is located on the nation’s maritime border, at a rally that was conducted in Puttalam.
“Sajith wants to develop “smart fishermen” and “smart farmers.””
He went on, “We are working to improve this fishing industry by using new methods along with new technology to make both the freshwater and marine fishing industry into a smart industry.” Premadasa emphasised that in the 1980s, Sri Lanka secured its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which stretches 200 nautical miles offshore.
According to Premadasa, “We intend to bring in necessary resources and foreign investments into the country and direct this Exclusive Economic Zone towards sustainable development through collaborative public-private projects throughout the country.”Furthermore, Premadasa said he intended to improve crop production in addition to paddy cultivation in order to improve agriculture in the region. He also stated that he wanted to support the growth of “smart fishermen” and “smart farmers.”
