Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a presidential candidate for the National People’s Power (NPP), challenged independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (03), demanding proof of Wickremesinghe’s assertion that deposed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had invited the NPP before his forced departure to form a government amid widespread protests.

The President is challenged by Anura to substantiate his frequently made accusations.

Dissanayake claimed Wickremesinghe had only organised a small number of political rallies while speaking at a rally in Bandarawela.”He maintains at all of these rallies that Gotabaya Rajapaksa challenged the NPP to form a government in the middle of 2022, and we turned down his offer. Nobody in their right mind would think that the NPP would be able to take power in the country with the help of the Rajapaksas and their cronies. The NPP leader said, “I implore Wickremesinghe to either cease propagating this falsehood or provide evidence that Gotabaya invited us to form a government.”

By assuring voters that there would be gas shortages if he lost the election, Wickremesinghe attempted to frighten them.”Ranil claims that the economy of the nation will collapse under an NPP government? The economy has been destroyed by Ranil and his gang.”We owe more than $100 billion, and Ranil has no intention of paying it back. Nations are reluctant to grant us visas. Most youth must migrate because they are unable to find employment. The agricultural sector has failed. Companies are failing. We’ll soon rebuild the nation,” he declared.
