The popular low-cost airline IndiGo started daily direct flights to Jaffna on Sunday, the first of its two destinations in the neighbouring country after Colombo. Jaffna is a city in the northern province of Sri Lanka.This is the 122nd overall and 34th international destination in the airlines’ quickly growing 6E network.

According to the aviation major, this important route will deepen the trade and cultural links that exist between Sri Lanka and India, which are demonstrated by their collaboration in the areas of infrastructure development, air connectivity, and commerce.

“This quick but important flight is a strategic addition that will help to grow trade and tourism between Sri Lanka and India. The shorter trip time of just 75 minutes is promised by the new daily direct flights from Chennai to Jaffna, according to Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo.More than 21,000 passengers flew the route between Chennai and Jaffna in just nine months last year, demonstrating the high demand for travel between the two cities.

Every day at 13:55 p.m., the Chennai-Jaffna flight is scheduled to arrive at 15:10 p.m.

The daily flight from Jaffna to Chennai is scheduled to depart at 15:55 pm and arrive at 17:10 pm.

According to IndiGo, this comeback will receive a welcome boost from its new direct flight, which will offer seamless connectivity and access to a vital market for Sri Lanka’s tourism boom.Jaffna is rich in cultural significance and history. Its customs, celebrations, and historical sites all bear witness to its rich Tamil heritage, which highlights the diversity and tenacity of its populace.

Famous locations include the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, a revered Hindu temple with religious and cultural significance, and the Jaffna Fort, an architectural reminder of the area’s colonial past.

The company claimed that, in addition to its economic benefits, this air link will serve as a cultural and social bridge, promoting human connections and facilitating family reunions, student access to higher education, and tourists’ discovery of Jaffna’s distinctive heritage.
