Speaking to a gathering of business stakeholders yesterday, Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), declared that the gem and jewellery industry in Sri Lanka would enter a golden age under his leadership.
Premadasa chastised succeeding governments for talking about policies for the gem and jewellery sector but not doing anything concrete.We have seen a number of foreign companies enter the market in recent years, undercutting regional companies. These businesses, which frequently have political backing, are looking to turn a profit quickly. Such actions will not be permitted by an SJB administration, he declared.

Premadasa emphasised how crucial it is for Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery sector to adopt cutting-edge technology and follow global norms. He promised that if SJB became president, Sri Lankan companies would be able to compete on an international level.”We’ll offer the industry all the assistance it needs. We also urge you to create a thorough plan for the expansion of the sector. Premadasa stated, “We want you to demonstrate to us how we can make Sri Lanka as powerful in the world’s gem and jewellery trade as either Thailand or Hong Kong.
