Official voting cards for the presidential election on September 21 will be distributed to post offices today (02), according to the District Election Offices.

Additionally, a special day, Sunday, September 8, has been set aside for the distribution of voting cards. The Postal Department has cancelled all of its employees’ leaves of absence until the election is over in order to maintain smooth operations. The leave of all Department of Posts employees has been revoked with immediate effect until the conclusion of the 2024 Presidential Election, according to Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha Ranasinghe’s announcement. However, the Deputy Postmaster General in charge of their province must grant permission to any postal worker who needs time off for an emergency.

Poll cards are being distributed starting today.

September 21 is the day of the presidential election, and September 4, 5, and 6 are the days for postal voting. Election offices, police departments, and district secretariats have set aside September 4 for postal voting. Furthermore, September 11 and 12 have been set aside as additional voting days for individuals who were unable to mail in their ballots on time.

In the 2024 Presidential Election, 736,589 applications were received for postal voting, according to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake. 712,321 of these applicants were qualified for postal voting after 24,268 of their applications were denied.
