Speaking at a rally in Batticaloa on yesterday (30), NPP presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake asserted that the party is the only one that can ensure the safety of every community because it is the only one that opposes extremism in all its forms.Dissanayake emphasised that instead of supporting politicians who use racism as a political tool, Sri Lankans should work to build a peaceful society.”The great majority of the nation’s Tamils, Sinhalese, and Muslims are not racists. Politicians are the ones who spark incidents that result in outbreaks of racism and division, with the support of a very small minority. Most of these issues will be resolved once we beat these politicians and their goons,” he said.

Dissanayake attacked the politicians who have ruled Sri Lanka for the previous 76 years, claiming they have no strategy to advance the nation’s economy or deal with the core problems that the people face. By promoting racism, they have concealed their incapacity. These politicians act as though they are from distinct groups. Racism is incited by one group against the Sinhalese, another against the Muslims, and still another against the Tamils. Our politics have always been like this, he said.
The leader of the NPP maintained that the only way to build a peaceful nation is to support a political party that actively opposes racism. In 2015, Mahinda Rajapaksa was vanquished. To regain power, the Rajapaksas and their associates turned to racism rather than reflecting and finding the reasons behind the people’s rejection. Through the manipulation of the media and false information, Sinhalese people were incited against Muslims. Now, where are the Rajapaksas’ adherents? A group supports Sajith, another supports Ranil, and a few support Namal. He questioned, “Will you vote for these parties?”Reiterating that the NPP is the only party free from racism, Dissanayake said that no form of extremism would be allowed under an NPP government and that any extremist elements would be strictly enforced by the law.
He asserted, “We are the only group that can guarantee everyone’s security.”
