Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka disclosed that his success in the Test format can be attributed to his ability to remain “calm.”

In the first Test of the three-match series against England in Manchester, Mendis played an impressive 113-run knock in a losing cause.

With more than 500 runs under his belt, his batting average of 92.16 is the second-highest in Test history as a result of his performance.

Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka shares the “mantra” that enables him to succeed in the test format.

Prior to the second Test, Kamindu shared details of his philosophy, which has supported his batting and given him the freedom to express himself on the cricket pitch.”I try to stay calm in the middle and do the simple things.” My goal for the day was to contribute as much as I could to the team. My main objective is to contribute as much as I can to my team, whether it is through fielding, bowling, or hitting, Kamindu stated, citing ESPNcricinfo.

When Kamindu replaced Dhananjaya de Silva in the match against Australia, it was two years ago. With a knock of 61, he made an impression, but he had to wait his turn to play again. He finally got the chance he had been waiting for—against Bangladesh earlier this year. To prove his value to the team, Kamindu took advantage of the opportunity and scored a twin hundred.

“I tried to do the best I could in the opportunity I had, even though I knew the batting was packed. After that, I was forced to leave the team, but I don’t think that was a mistake. To balance a team, you have to make a lot of decisions, and the only reason I joined that side was because Dhananjaya had Covid. I had to move aside when he came back. Fair enough, Kamindu remarked. For the previous two years, Kamindu was a member of the squad before making his way back into the team to face Bangladesh. He believes that time helped him become a better player.

“I was in the squad and travelled with the team pretty much every tour, even though I didn’t get to play. “I played well in my first few innings because I went on so many tours with experienced players on those tours,” he continued.

Kamindu would be eager to perform well in Thursday’s second Test against England at the Lord’s.
