The largest street festival in Europe, Notting Hill Carnival, began with three stabbings on its first day. According to London’s Metropolitan Police Service, one of the victims, a 32-year-old woman, had “life-threatening” injuries.

The funfair, an annual celebration of Afro-Caribbean culture held on the streets of the Notting Hill neighbourhood in west London, is expected to draw over a million attendees. There are about 7,000 police officers assigned to the event, which ends on Monday.

The UK Chaos at Notting Hill Carnival results in 90 arrests, 15 assaults on police officers and 3 stabbings.

Ninety arrests were reported by police on Sunday; these included the detention of ten individuals for attacking emergency personnel, eighteen for possessing offensive weapons, and four for sexual offences.

The Met released a statement saying, “Hundreds of thousands of people came to Notting Hill Carnival today to enjoy a fantastic celebration.” “Unfortunately, a small minority arrived to commit crimes and use violence.”
