The government of Sri Lanka has made it possible for rail travellers to purchase tickets online for the first time at www.pravesha.lk.
With the help of this new system, passengers can now use their mobile phones to purchase train tickets, even for short trips.
Speaking about the project, Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe, Ssecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Highways, said that as of last Thursday(22) train tickets can now be purchased online.
“Train tickets are now being issued online in Sri Lanka.”
“With the website www.pravesha.lk, passengers can now purchase digital train tickets, doing away with the need to stand in queue. For those who would rather pay in person, tickets will still be sold at the counters.
Before the year ends, we want to launch this online season ticketing system. Over the following three months, new procedures for booking train seats and shipping cargo will also be implemented, he stated.
