Following his election victory, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the presidential candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP), promises to take action to eliminate the Value Added Tax (VAT) levied on food, healthcare, and school supplies.
Speaking lastday (16) at a public rally in Galle, he emphasised how urgent it is for the NPP to assume control of the nation’s leadership in order to handle the current crises.
“Anura Kumara promises to eliminate VAT on necessities.”
According to Dissanayake, “the NPP’s leadership is needed to pull the nation back from its critical state.”
He added that on August 15, a new plan for generating electricity was proposed, with the goal of slashing electricity rates by a third and eliminating VAT on necessities like food, medical care, and school supplies in the initial budget proposal.The leader of the NPP went on to criticise the other contenders for putting their own interests ahead of the wellbeing of the populace.
