According to US President Joe Biden, Ukraine announced on Wednesday that its forces had penetrated deeper into Russia’s Kursk region, marking the largest foreign incursion into the country since World War Two and presenting a challenge for President Vladimir Putin.Putin described the incursion of thousands of Ukrainian troops into Russia’s Kursk region in the early hours of August 6 as a major provocation intended to gain leverage in potential future ceasefire negotiations.Despite Putin’s assurances that the Russian army would drive the Ukrainian troops out, over a week of fierce fighting has not succeeded in driving them from their portion of the Kursk border region in Ukraine.

Subsequently, pro-Russian war bloggers claimed that the front has stabilised and the ministry reported that Russian forces had repulsed several Ukrainian attacks inside the Kursk region, including at Russkoye Porechnoye, 18 km (11 miles) from the border.According to a Ukrainian security source who spoke to Reuters under condition of anonymity, the Ukrainian drone attack targeted four Russian military airfields in an effort to weaken Russia’s capacity to attack Ukraine using gliding bombs.
Situated just 35 km (22 miles) away from the fighting, the Kursk nuclear power plant is being guarded more closely, according to Russia’s National Guard.
The storyline surrounding the two and a half-year-old war has drastically changed as a result of the Ukrainian invasion of Russian territory.
