The candidates running for president in 2024 have until yesterday, April 14, at 12 p.m., to submit their deposits.On this last day to deposit bonds, four candidates have done so: independent Sarath Kumara Gunarathne, MP Namal Rajapaksa of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Janaka Ratnayake of the “United Lanka Podujana Party,” Lalith De Silva of the “United National Freedom Party,” and MP Namal Rajapaksa of the “United Lanka Podujana Party.”
“As the deadline approaches, 40 candidates deposit money for the 2024 presidential contest.”
Forty people have deposited to run in the next presidential election, according to the Election Commission.
This comprises 17 independent candidates nominated by voters, 01 candidates from other political parties, and 22 candidates from officially recognised political parties.Deposits for the presidential race were accepted starting on July 26 and ended yesterday at noon.
Nominations for the next presidential election will be accepted starting today, May 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.In the meantime, 42 complaints about the 2024 presidential election have been received, according to the Election Commission of Sri Lanka, in the last 24 hours.As a result, three additional complaints and 37 complaints pertaining to violations of election law were filed.
Of them, 22 were reported to the District Election Complaint Management Centre and 20 to the National Election Complaint Management Centre.
