A traveler carrying three hundred and sixty live ornamental fish and turtles intended for domestic sale was detained by Sri Lanka Customs. The Sri Lanka Customs Biodiversity Protection Unit has detained the passenger at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake early yesterday morning (10).The person who was detained has been recognised as a businessman, aged fifty, who lives in the Thalawathugoda region.

Someone was detained at the BIA for trying to smuggle live turtles and fish.

On the other hand, the traveller who took a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Sri Lanka asserts that the fish and turtles were brought for one of his pals.According to Sri Lanka Customs, among the live animals are Asian arowana, cycads, catfish, and turtles.The Sri Lanka Customs Biodiversity Protection Unit officers acted upon intelligence they received to carry out the arrest, and they have since launched additional enquiries into the incident.
