Southwestern Japan has been rocked by a powerful earthquake. A tsunami advisory has been issued by the Meteorological Agency for the coastal regions of the prefectures of Miyazaki, Kochi, Oita, Kagoshima, and Ehime.According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck in and around Miyazaki Prefecture, with the hardest-hit areas having an intensity of lower 6 on the 0–7 scale.

A powerful earthquake trembles Kyushu

The tsunami is predicted to reach a height of one metre, but it has the potential to surge repeatedly, rise sharply, and strike with great force.  It is advised that anyone in an area where a tsunami advisory has been issued avoid going near rivers or beaches and not try to observe the situation.
