The president’s office has released a statement announcing the dissolution of Bangladesh’s parliament.
The organisers of the student protest, who had set a deadline of 15:00 local time (09:00 GMT), made this demand in the main.
“Bangladesh’s parliament was disbanded.”
Protesting students have declared that they will not submit to a government run by the military and that Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus has consented to serve as the head of the temporary administration.
