A contract killer has been apprehended by the Mount Lavinia Police for the assassination of Public Health Inspectors Union (PHIU) treasurer Roshan Kumara. Also found has been the pistol that was used in the killing.

In February 2024, Kumara was slain in Karandeniya, Galle.

According to investigations, an underworld leader who lives in Dubai gave the gunman Rs 1.1 million in exchange for the murder. According to the police, the murderer had no idea that Kumara worked as a public health inspector. The 52-year-old suspect was taken into custody on June 22 during an operation in Badowita, Mount Lavinia, with drugs.

The suspect admitted to carrying out the Karandeniya assassination during questioning. He acknowledged using a handgun made in the United States of America, which was later discovered concealed in a Badowita safe house. Another Italian-made pistol was found in a Uragasmanhandiya home.A couple who had given the suspect shelter while he was plotting the murder was also taken into custody by the police.

The suspect also disclosed that the money had been transferred into his wife’s account by Saman Kolla, a prominent figure in Dubai’s underworld. He did not know who the getaway rider was, but he did say that a motorbike gang had arranged for him to get help.
