At the US Trials in Eugene on Sunday, October 30, Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone cut 0.03 off her own world 400m hurdles record* and won in 50.65.

McLaughlin-Levrone won by nearly two seconds in what was one of the fastest races ever, with a record four women finishing in under 53 seconds.

The 24-year-old took the lead right away and maintained it throughout. She had already pulled away from Anna Cockrell by the halfway point, and over the last 200m, she continued to gain ground, crossing the finish line in 50.65.

With a personal best time of 52.64, Cockrell maintained her lead. Jasmine Jones finished third with a PB of 52.77, 0.22 seconds ahead of Shamier Little in fourth.

At the most recent US Olympic Trials in 2021, McLaughlin-Levrone recorded her first world record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.90. She went on to win the Olympic title in Tokyo by cutting that down to 51.46. She broke the world record at the US Championships a year later (51.41) and went on to improve it internationally, taking home the world title in Oregon in 50.68 in 2022.

Eugene, Oregon’s Hayward Field now holds four of her five world records.
