The Colombo High Court will review a bail request that the attorneys for former SJB MP Hirunika Premachandra filed yesterday. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, April 4.
Through her attorneys, she filed a bail request in an attempt to overturn the Colombo High Court’s recent decision to sentence her to three years of hard labour.
“The hearing for Hirunika’s bail request is scheduled for this Thursday”
Premachandra was sentenced to three years of hard labour by the Colombo High Court last Friday for her role in the 2015 kidnapping and assault of a young person in Dematagoda while using a Defender.
After considering the case brought by the victim, Amila Priyankara, who claimed that on December 21, 2015, he was kidnapped and beaten by a group of people who went to Dematagoda, the Colombo High Court rendered its decision.
Premachandra made a docket statement during the case hearing, claiming that she was at an event when the incident occurred and that one of the accused—who had entered a guilty plea—had taken her Defender without her permission and used it in the incident.
