A car crashes into a crowd in Seoul, killing at least nine people.

Before it struck any pedestrians, the car, according to the local media, was travelling in the incorrect direction and collided with two other cars.

According to the police, the collision happened at a crosswalk close to Seoul City Hall. The driver in question told the police that the car suddenly accelerated, and he was arrested on the spot.

Three more people passed away later from their injuries, leaving six dead at the scene. Four more people have been admitted to the hospital at least. The country’s speed limits are 30 km/h in residential areas and 50 km/h (31 mph) on general urban roads, according to a recent Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report on road safety.  According to the agency, pedestrians in South Korea accounted for 35% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, a high percentage when compared to other OECD nations.  However, the OECD noted in the same report that the nation’s traffic fatalities had decreased recently.
